FOODinteract
Research Team

A multidisciplinary research group working at the vital intersection of food science, chemistry and health

Food system, Health, Chemistry Interaction

Our mission

To advance scientific knowledge that improves food quality and authenticity, protects consumer safety and enhances human health and well-being

Research areas

Two complementary research lines connect analytical food science with chemistry-driven health discovery

Food Quality, Safety & Health

  • Advanced testing for precise food composition and sensory analyses
  • Fraud prevention using smart traceability and DNA tools to support food authenticity
  • Risk mitigation by identifying and minimising food contaminants and allergens
  • Mapping digestion and bioaccessibility to design tomorrow's functional foods

Chemistry for Health & Well-being

  • Supporting disease prevention by unlocking the molecular mechanisms behind chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and cancer
  • Developing targeted solutions by combining clinical data with cellular models to discover novel biomarkers and therapeutic targets

A collaborative team with multidisciplinary expertise

We bridge disciplines across chemistry, biochemistry, biology, bromatology, pharmacology, nutrition, hydrology and engineering

Our impact

We bridge the gap between food systems, environmental safety, and biomedical sciences. Together, we deliver the scientific evidence and innovative insights required to support public health, inform regulatory decision-making, and drive sustainable development

Public health

Evidence that supports healthier food systems and better well-being

Regulatory evidence

Insights that can inform policy, safety assessment and decision-making

Sustainable development

Science aligned with innovation, safety and long-term societal value
